NEARBY
We are located just off the A5 between Oswestry and Chirk; close to a whole range of interesting places to visit.
Chirk Castle and Aqueduct: Chirk is a charming village with a number of public houses, shops and cafes. It is home to the world famous 70 foot high Chirk Viaduct. Built between 1796 and 1801 by Thomas Telford and William Jessop to carry the Ellesmere Canal, it is recognised as one of the finest aqueducts in the UK. Completed in 1310, Chirk is the last Welsh castle from the reign of Edward I still lived in today. Features from its 700 years include the medieval tower and dungeon, 17th-century Long Gallery, grand 18th-century state apartments, servants' hall and historic laundry. The award-winning gardens contain clipped yews, herbaceous borders, shrub and rock gardens. A terrace with stunning views looks out over the Cheshire and Shropshire plains. Owned by the National Trust the Castle makes for a wonderful day out.
Ellesmere: Famous for its annual food and drink festival, Ellesmere is a charming market town sitting alongside the famous Mere. The mereside walk and the newly refurbished Boathouse Team Rooms make this a must for a relaxing day out
Shopping: If you are looking for some retail therapy, we are ideally placed. We are within an hour's driving distance of both Shrewsbury and Chester. Both are Roman towns which have become thriving centres of commerce. Each has the ideal mix of well known retailers and independent stores.
Eating and Drinking: Shropshire and the Welsh Borders are famous for their local produce, which can be tasted at their best at many of the local hostelries and restaurants. The closest of these is the popular Lord Morton Restaurant and Pub. Next door you will find the Morton Garden Centre, which has an excellent café and coffee shops.
Sports: If you are looking for a round of golf, a work out or a spar experience, then all are within easy reach. We are literally a stones throw from the excellent Henlle Park Golf Club and a very short walk from the Lion Quays Hotel and Leisure Centre.
